Buzzwords and Your Resume

Catch your reader’s eye!

Buzzwords will catch your readers eye. That is why you’ll want to highlight those power words in your resume. Being able to catch the eye of your audience in 7 seconds or less will lead them to call you and discuss the items on your resume further. And, hopefully, landing you the job.

Seven seconds?!

How am I supposed to impress my reader, the person who will potentially be interviewing me for my dream job, in only 7 seconds? Those sparkling words that are used in your resume will be what catches their eye and has them flag yours before moving on to the next in their pile.

That’s why meeting with a resume writer who specifically tailors your resume to fit YOUR story is so vital to your success in landing that job. Throughout our conversation, I will be inquiring about specific details and asking leading questions to discover those sparkling words and powerful details that will not only catch the eye of your reader but also cause them to call you to find out more.

Add That Sparkle And Watch It Shine

A fantastic way to add a little sparkle to your resume is by adding your strengths, and it’s key to back these qualities up with evidence that supports the characteristics you choose. Here’s how - link a strength’s exam to your resume! This little trick will add something more than just saying you are “innovative” or a “team-player”. By linking the strengths exam results, you provide employers with a more concrete or credible way that you are those terms that you used. Strength exams are very  popular right now in the job market and many employers may even request that you complete one shortly after starting your new position. By having this already on your resume, you’re showing the reader those skills and strengths early on.

How long should your resume be?

While on the topic of what to include in your resume, let’s discuss how long your resume should be. Is one page enough, is three way too many? My advice? Keep your resume to one or two pages. This compact format will provide a brief overview of your professional timeline and entice your readers to follow-up with questions. Many recruiters will ask questions during a brief phone interview, leading to a personal connection, and hopefully getting you one step closer to landing the job!

By keeping your resume clear and concise, and focusing on those buzzwords, you will paint a picture for your reader that perks their ears just enough to have a vague idea of what you did but still have lingering questions. Ready to paint that picture?
